Use Experiments to find searches that may need review. The page highlights recent zero-result searches and weak-coverage searches so you can decide whether to improve catalog data, adjust search configuration, or create merchandising rules.

Prerequisites

  • Your store must be connected to Layers.
  • Your catalog should be synced.
  • Search traffic or Lab test searches must exist for the store.

Open Experiments

  1. In the Layers dashboard, go to LabExperiments.
  2. Review the table of flagged searches.
  3. Use the Type filter to focus on Zero result or Weak coverage rows.
  4. Click the play icon to replay a search in Test Text Search when replay is available.

Experiment types

  • Zero result - A query produced no useful results. These rows help you find missing synonyms, missing product data, or catalog gaps.
  • Weak coverage - A query returned results, but Layers detected weak matches. These rows help you find searches where the top results may not be strong enough.

How to review a row

  1. Read the Query to understand what the shopper searched for.
  2. Read Engine action to see why Layers flagged it.
  3. Replay the query in Test Text Search.
  4. Compare the results against what you expect shoppers to see.
  5. Update search configuration, merchandising, or catalog data as needed.

Common fixes

  • Add or improve product titles, descriptions, tags, or searchable attributes.
  • Create a semantic redirect when a query should send shoppers to a specific page.
  • Create or adjust a ranking rule when the right products exist but need stronger placement.
  • Review intent modifiers when the engine is applying an unexpected boost or filter.

Troubleshooting

The page says the engine has not flagged any searches

This means Layers has not found recent zero-result or weak-coverage searches for the store. Run representative queries in Test Text Search or review again after more shopper traffic.

A zero-result query looks correct now

Catalog syncs and configuration changes can fix an issue after it was logged. Replay the query before making changes so you validate the current behavior.

A weak-coverage query still has some relevant products

Weak coverage does not always mean the search is broken. It means the engine found signals worth reviewing. Use replay and score breakdowns to decide whether action is needed.
