A pickup filter lets shoppers narrow results to products they can collect from a nearby store. Layers works out which locations can fulfill each product from your Shopify locations and inventory, so the filter stays current without extra product data.

Before you begin

  • In Shopify, turn on Local pickup for each location that offers pickup.
  • Your theme must show the pickup filter. On themes built with the Layers SDK or Liquid integration, your developer adds it. See Local pickup filtering.

Turn on the pickup filter

  1. Go to Attributes and search for pickup locations. Layers creates this attribute automatically.
  2. Open it and turn it on as a filter.
  3. Wait for the Filter column to show a green check. See When a facet goes live.

Choose which locations appear

By default, the filter only lists locations that have stock of at least one product in the current results. On a collection carried by only a few stores, shoppers see only those stores. To list every pickup location, even those with no matching stock, turn on List every pickup location under Settings → Developer → Response Options. Locations you hide on the filter are never listed. When a shopper shares their location or enters a postcode, your theme can limit the list to nearby stores, nearest first.

Troubleshooting

  • A store is missing from the filter. Check that Local pickup is on for the location in Shopify and that it isn’t hidden on the filter. With the default setting, a store only appears when it has stock of a product in the results.
  • A product appears under a store that’s out of stock. Inventory changes reach Layers shortly after Shopify records them. Resync the product if it persists. See Catalog sync.
