The Product Families list supports multi-select so you can publish, pause, or remove many families in a single action. This is useful when curating large catalogs, rolling out groupings across many products, or cleaning up after a seasonal launch. You can also toggle a single family’s status from its row actions menu without entering selection mode.

Toggle status from the row actions

  1. Go to Merchandise → Product Families.
  2. Find the family you want to publish or unpublish.
  3. Click the actions menu on its row.
  4. Select Publish if the family is currently unpublished, or Unpublish if it is currently live.
The change applies immediately and the status badge updates.

Steps

  1. Go to Merchandise → Product Families.
  2. Use the search box or any column filter to narrow the list to the families you want to act on.
  3. Click Select in the actions column header to enter selection mode.
  4. Tick the checkbox on each family. To select a range, click the first checkbox, then hold Shift and click the last one. Every row in between is selected automatically.
  5. (Optional) Open the selected dropdown next to the row count and click Select all results to extend your selection to every family that matches the current filters, including families on other pages.
  6. Open the Actions dropdown and select one of the following:
    • Publish — Activates every selected family so its grouping rules apply on the storefront.
    • Unpublish — Pauses selected families without deleting them. Configuration is preserved and families can be republished at any time.
    • Delete — Permanently removes the selected families. A confirmation dialog appears before the deletion runs.
  7. When you’re done, click Actions → Done selecting to exit selection mode.

Selection scope

The dropdown next to the selection count shows how many families are currently selected and lets you switch between two scopes:
  • Page selection (default) — Only the rows you ticked are included.
  • All results — Every family matching your current search, filters, and sort is included, even families on other pages. The count shows the full filtered total.
To narrow an All results selection, click Unselect all from the same dropdown and re-tick individual rows.
Use Unpublish rather than Delete when testing a new grouping strategy. You can republish the original families instantly if results don’t improve.
Bulk actions only work on manual families. Automatic families are managed by sync, so if your selection includes any automatic family, Layers rejects the whole Publish, Unpublish, or Delete action with an error and nothing changes. This also applies when you use Select all results on a list that includes automatic families. Narrow your selection to manual families and run the action again.
Delete is permanent. If you only want to pause a family, use Unpublish so you can republish later without rebuilding the grouping configuration.
