Layers reports most search and browse metrics per search or browse request, not per store visit. That’s the main reason Layers numbers don’t line up with Shopify’s conversion rate.

Engagement and conversion

Mobile apps don’t send click or purchase events, so Layers leaves app requests out of CTR, ATC rate, purchase rate, and CVR rather than counting them as searches with no clicks.

Revenue

Layers splits credit for a sale between the searches, collections, and blocks that led to it. See Blended attribution and Attributed Sales versus Attributed Revenue.

How Layers numbers differ from Shopify

  • Different denominators. Shopify’s conversion rate is sessions with an order divided by store sessions. Layers’ CVR counts clicked searches that led to an order, and purchase rate counts searches that led to an order, so a single visit with three searches can count three times.
  • Attributed, not total, sales. Layers revenue metrics only include orders it can connect to a search, collection view, or block. Use Shopify for total store sales.
  • Order timing. Layers imports Shopify orders once a day, so revenue metrics can trail Shopify by up to a day.

When data shows up

  • Storefront events such as impressions, clicks, and add to carts usually appear within the hour.
  • Orders and revenue appear after the next daily Shopify order import.
  • Attribution is recalculated every four hours.
If the Analytics Delay banner appears, events are still catching up. See Data freshness.
