The Merchandising Rules list supports multi-select so you can publish, pause, or remove many rules in a single action. This is useful for seasonal launches, sale cleanup, or quickly reverting a batch of rules. You can also toggle a single rule’s status from its row actions menu without entering selection mode.

Toggle status from the row actions

  1. Go to Merchandise → Merchandising Rules.
  2. Find the rule you want to publish or unpublish.
  3. Click the actions menu on its row.
  4. Select Publish if the rule is currently unpublished, or Unpublish if it is currently live.
The change applies immediately and the status badge updates. If the rule’s schedule has ended or has not started yet, Layers rejects the publish and shows the reason. Use Edit in the same menu to open the full editor.

Steps

  1. Go to Merchandise → Merchandising Rules.
  2. Use the search box, the Status filter (Live, Scheduled, Ended, or Draft), or any column filter to narrow the list to the rules you want to act on. The Live filter option shows rules whose badge reads Published.
  3. Open a rule’s actions menu and click Select to start selecting.
  4. Tick the checkbox on each rule. To select a range, click the first checkbox, then hold Shift and click the last one. Every row in between is selected automatically.
  5. (Optional) Open the selected dropdown next to the row count and click Select all results to extend your selection to every rule that matches the current filters, including rules on other pages. If no filters are active, the option becomes Select all in this store.
  6. Click one of the action buttons in the toolbar:
    • Publish — Enables every selected rule so it applies on the storefront. Rules whose schedule has ended or has not started yet are skipped, and a message lists the skipped rule names.
    • Unpublish — Pauses selected rules without deleting them. Configuration is preserved and rules can be republished at any time.
    • Delete — Permanently removes the selected rules. A confirmation dialog appears before the deletion runs.
  7. When you’re done, open the selected dropdown and click Unselect all to clear the selection.

Selection scope

The dropdown next to the selection count shows how many rules are currently selected and lets you switch between two scopes:
  • Page selection (default) — Only the rows you ticked are included.
  • All results — Every rule matching your current search, filters, and sort is included, even rules on other pages. The count shows the full filtered total.
To narrow an All results selection, click Unselect all from the same dropdown and re-tick individual rows.

Background processing for large selections

When you run an action against All results, Layers queues the work in the background. A progress toast appears with a title such as Enabling merchandising rules, a progress bar, and a running count of processed rules. Background processing keeps the dashboard responsive when you act on thousands of rules at once. You can continue working while the job runs.
  • Cancel — While the job is running, click Cancel on the toast to stop it. Rules already processed keep the change; the rest are left untouched.
  • Finished — When the job completes, the toast reads “Finished. The list reflects the change on your next refresh.” Refresh the page to see the updated list.
  • Failed — If the job can’t finish, the toast turns into an error. Rules already processed were saved. Run the action again, and contact Customer Care if it keeps happening.
Combine the Status filter with Select all results to flip every paused rule live for a sale, then revert with a second bulk Unpublish when the campaign ends.
Delete is permanent. If you only want to pause a rule, use Unpublish so you can republish later without rebuilding pins, expressions, or conditions. Recently deleted rules can sometimes be recovered. See Restore a deleted merchandising rule.

Troubleshooting

  • The queued action hasn’t finished. Background jobs process in the order they’re received. Watch the progress toast for the running count; very large selections can take longer. Refresh the page once the toast reads Finished.
  • My filters reset after the action ran. The Merchandising Rules list returns to its default view once a queued action completes. Re-apply your filters from the toolbar to continue.
  • The “Select all results” option isn’t visible. It only appears when at least one row is checked and there are more matching rules than fit on the current page.
  • A preview rule appears in my selection. Preview rules are excluded from bulk publish, unpublish, and delete actions automatically. Only saved rules are processed.
  • Some rules were skipped. Bulk Publish skips rules whose schedule has ended or has not started yet, and names them in a message. Edit each rule’s schedule (or clear it) before publishing. See Rule scheduling.
