# Collection count doesn't match Shopify

> Fix a collection that shows more or fewer products in Layers than in Shopify, from held deletions to hidden and unavailable products.

A collection can show a different number of products in Layers than in Shopify. First decide which Layers count you're comparing:

* **The dashboard count**, on the collection's page under **Collections**. This lists every product Layers has indexed for the collection, including draft and archived products.
* **The storefront count**, what shoppers see when they browse the collection. Layers leaves out products shoppers can't see or buy, and with variant breakouts it counts tiles rather than products.

## The dashboard shows more products than Shopify

**1. Check for blocked removals**

Layers can hold back removals from a collection until you approve them. This happens when collection deletion protection is on and a sync removes many products, and also, whatever the setting, when a sync would remove every product from the collection. While a removal is held, the products stay in the Layers collection, and another resync won't remove them.

Look for a warning next to the collection on the **Collections** page, or review **Pending Approval** under **Settings** → **Data & Sync** → **Protection**. If the removal is intended, approve it. See [Collection deletion protection](https://docs.uselayers.com/shopify-integration/catalog-sync.md#collection-deletion-protection).

**2. Resync the collection**

If nothing is held for the collection, resync it to pull its current product list from Shopify. See [Resync a single collection](https://docs.uselayers.com/help/catalog/resync-single-collection.md).

## The dashboard shows fewer products than Shopify

Resync the collection. If the count is still lower once the resync finishes, [contact support](mailto:support@uselayers.com) with the collection name and both counts.

## The storefront shows fewer products than Shopify

If the dashboard count matches Shopify but shoppers see fewer products, Layers is leaving out products shoppers can't see or buy:

* **Unpublished products.** Draft and archived products, products not published to the Online Store channel, and products scheduled for a future date don't appear to web shoppers. See [Sales channel visibility](https://docs.uselayers.com/shopify-integration/catalog-sync.md#sales-channel-visibility).
* **Out-of-stock products.** If your store hides out-of-stock products, they drop out of storefront results. See [Out-of-stock product visibility](https://docs.uselayers.com/help/configuration/configure-search-behavior.md#out-of-stock-product-visibility).
* **Hidden products.** Layers leaves out products matched by a [hidden content rule](https://docs.uselayers.com/platform/hidden-products.md) for collections, or tagged with a built-in exclusion tag such as `hide` or `layers-ignore`.
* **Market availability.** In **Restrict to market catalog** mode, shoppers only see products published to their market. See [Shopify Markets](https://docs.uselayers.com/shopify-integration/shopify-markets.md#restrict-to-market-catalog).

## The storefront shows more products than Shopify

If you use [variant breakouts](https://docs.uselayers.com/platform/variant-breakouts.md), Layers can show one product as several tiles, for example one per color. The storefront count counts tiles, so it can be higher than Shopify's product count even when the collection has the same products. Check the collection's breakout settings before you look for a sync problem.
