# Create a product sequence

> Create a product sequence in Layers to keep related items together on collection pages and search results so they always appear side-by-side.

## What sequences do

* Group related products to show together (like matching sets).

## Steps

1. Go to **Sequences** and click **Create**.
2. Enter a **name** for the sequence (for example, "Summer outfit set" or "Matching bedding").
3. Choose a **sort order** that has sequences enabled. Then select the **collection** the sequence applies to — pick a specific collection or select **All** to apply across every collection.
4. Add at least 2 products to the sequence and drag them into the desired display order.
5. Optionally, add [conditions](#adding-conditions) to control when the sequence is active.
6. Save.

## Adding conditions

The **Conditions** section appears below the product list when your store has product attributes available. Use it to define rules that must be met by every product in the sequence for the sequence to appear on your storefront.

1. In the sequence form, scroll to the **Conditions** section.
2. Add one or more rules using the condition builder. Each rule targets a product attribute (such as availability, vendor, or a metafield value).
3. The sequence is active only when all products satisfy every rule. If any product fails, the sequence moves to **Draft** and is hidden from results.

Layers re-evaluates conditions automatically when products update during catalog sync.

<Tip>
  If you need the same condition on every sequence, configure it as a [global condition](/platform/sequences#global-sequence-conditions) under **Settings > Sequences** instead of repeating it on each sequence.
</Tip>

## Filtering the sequences list

If you manage many sequences, use the **sort order filter** at the top of the sequences list to show only sequences associated with a specific sort order. This helps you quickly find and manage sequences grouped by sort order.

## Tips

* Make sure your sort order has sequence mode enabled — only sort orders with this setting appear in the sort order dropdown when creating a sequence.
* Use conditions to automatically hide sequences when products sell out or change attributes.
* You can add draft (unpublished) products to a sequence to prepare it before those products go live. Draft products display a **Draft** badge in the product list.
* If a product later gets filtered out of your searchable catalog, it stays in the sequence with a **Not Viewable** badge. This covers cases like a product being hidden in Shopify or excluded by a tag filter, and preserves the grouping in case the product becomes viewable again.
* A sequence needs at least 2 active (published) products to appear on your storefront. If it has fewer, it stays in **Draft** status until enough products are published.
* Choose a descriptive name that identifies the product grouping at a glance — you will see this name in the sequences list.
