# Demo store setup

> Set up a demo store on Layers, including app installation and crawler signature configuration. The search-quality bootstrap runs automatically on install.

This guide walks you through setting up a demo store on **Layers**. Most of the heavy lifting — importing historical searches, drafting a brand description and autocomplete prompt, and running a baseline evaluation — happens automatically on install. You only need to handle the two steps below.

## Step 1: Install Layers

Follow the [installation guide](/help/onboarding/install) to install Layers on your Shopify store. When the app installs, Layers automatically:

* Syncs your product catalog.
* Seeds the last 30 days of historical search terms from your Shopify storefront.
* Drafts a brand description and autocomplete curation prompt from your storefront content and seeded searches.
* Runs a baseline search evaluation once the catalog is indexed.

See [What Layers seeds automatically](/help/onboarding/install#what-layers-seeds-automatically) for the full list. You can review and edit anything Layers drafted once onboarding completes.

## Step 2: Create a crawler signature

To speed up the sync of product media, set up a crawler signature. See [Creating a crawler signature](/help/onboarding/creating-crawler-signature) for instructions.

## Optional: Provide additional search history

If your store is new on Shopify or has limited recorded searches, the automatic import may seed only a small set of terms. To supply a larger sample, see [Exporting search data](/help/onboarding/exporting-search-data) for the manual ShopifyQL export and how to send it to Layers Support.

## Next steps

Once onboarding completes, Layers notifies you and unlocks the full dashboard. Review the auto-generated content under **Settings → General** (brand description) and **Settings → Autocomplete** (curation prompt), then continue with [Dashboard home](/help/onboarding/dashboard-home).
