# Edit, disable, or delete a merchandising rule

> Update, disable, or delete an existing merchandising rule in Layers to pause it temporarily, edit pins and conditions, or remove it from a collection.

## Edit a rule

1. Go to **Merchandise** and find your rule.
2. Click **Edit** to open the merchandising editor.
3. Change pins, expressions, or settings using the sidebar tabs on the right.
4. Edit the rule name by clicking the title in the page header.
5. Click **Save Changes** to save your edits.

## Publish or unpublish a rule

Use the **Publish** / **Unpublish** button in the page header to control whether a rule is live.

* **Publish** — Makes the rule active so it applies to your storefront. Available when the rule is currently unpublished.
* **Unpublish** — Pauses the rule without losing your work. The rule stays saved and can be re-published at any time.

This replaces the previous enable/disable workflow and gives you a clear published state for each rule.

## Delete a rule

Click the overflow menu (three-dot icon) in the page header and select **Delete Rule** to permanently remove a rule. See [Restore a deleted rule](/help/merchandising/restore-deleted-merchandising-rule) if you need to recover it.

## Duplicate a rule

Click the overflow menu in the page header and select **Duplicate Rule** to create a copy with the same pins, expressions, and settings. The duplicate starts as a new unpublished draft.

## Previewing changes

While editing, open the overflow menu (three-dot icon) in the page header and click **Preview**. This shows how your changes will look on the live storefront before saving. The preview opens in a new tab and captures your current unsaved state. See [Previewing rules](/platform/merchandising/preview) for details.

## Tips

* Layers allows only one active rule per collection + sort order.
* Use the search bar in the toolbar to filter the product grid by title, vendor, SKU, tags, or other attributes while editing pins.
