# Manage organizations

> Group multiple Layers stores under one organization, invite members with organization roles, and switch between stores from a single account.

An **organization** groups multiple Layers stores under one umbrella so you can manage members and store access in one place. Owners and admins of an organization get access to every store attached to it, and members can switch between those stores from the store switcher or the user menu.

Organizations are optional. If you only manage a single store, you can continue to use [team members](/help/configuration/manage-team-members) and [roles](/help/configuration/manage-roles-and-permissions) at the store level and skip this page.

<Note>
Organizations are created by the Layers team. Once your organization exists and you've been assigned as the Owner or an Admin, you can attach stores, invite members, and configure it from the pages below. Reach out to Layers support to have one set up.
</Note>

## Organization roles

Organization membership is separate from store membership. Each organization member holds one of three built-in roles:

| Role | What it grants |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Owner** | Full control of the organization, including renaming, deletion, and transferring ownership. Has implicit full access to every store attached to the organization. |
| **Admin** | Manage members, attach and detach stores, and grant per-store access. Has implicit full access to every store attached to the organization. |
| **Member** | Can see the organization and its roster. Has no inherent access to attached stores — an owner or admin must grant per-store access from the store's own [Users & Invites](/help/configuration/manage-team-members) page. |

Owners and admins do not need a separate store invite for stores attached to their organization; access flows down automatically. When a store is detached from an organization, any access that was granted through the organization is revoked.

## Switch between organizations and stores

Once you belong to at least one organization, an **Organization** section appears in the user menu (top-right avatar). It shows your active organization, lets you switch to other organizations you belong to, and links to organization settings.

The store switcher in the header also shows the organization name above the store name, so you can tell at a glance which organization a store belongs to.

## Attach a store to your organization

You can attach any store you already manage (as its Owner or Admin) to an organization where you have the **Attach stores** permission.

1. Go to **Settings > Organization > Overview**.
2. Click **Attach Store**.
3. Select a store from the dropdown of stores you manage. Only stores that aren't already attached to another organization appear.
4. Click **Attach Store** to confirm.

The store immediately appears in the organization's store list, and organization owners and admins get access to it.

To detach a store, click **Detach** next to it in the store list. Detaching revokes any store access that was granted through the organization, but keeps direct store invites in place.

## Invite members to your organization

Members can be invited by email or with a shareable invite link, using the same flow as store invites.

1. Go to **Settings > Organization > Users**.
2. Click **Invite Member**.
3. Enter the member's name and email address.
4. Choose the **Organization role** to assign — Owner, Admin, or Member.
5. Submit the form.

The invited user receives an email and an in-app notification. If they already have a Layers account, they can accept from the [notification center](/platform/real-time-collaboration#notification-center); otherwise the invite email walks them through creating an account.

To create a shareable invite link, click **Generate Invite Link** on the same page and choose the role it should assign. Anyone who joins through the link gets that role. Invite links can be revoked at any time from the same page.

## Rename or edit your organization

Owners and admins can rename the organization from the **Overview** page:

1. Go to **Settings > Organization > Overview**.
2. Click **Edit**.
3. Update the name and save.

## Manage organization members

Open **Settings > Organization > Users** to view all members and pending invites.

* Change a member's role from the row actions menu.
* Remove a member to revoke their organization access and any store access granted through the organization.
* Resend or cancel a pending invite from the pending invites list.

Direct store invites and store roles are unaffected by organization changes — a member who has their own store invite keeps it even if they leave the organization.
